Closeup of an Eye

What is the retina?

The retina is the light-sensitive tissue in the back interior of the eye. The retina is responsible for taking in the light that comes through the cornea and converting that light into brain signals that travel through the optic nerve. An unhealthy retina can be extremely detrimental to eyesight. Unfortunately, there are many conditions and diseases that can affect our retinas over our lifetimes. At Fogg Remington EyeCare we specialize in diagnosing and treating many retinal diseases.

Common diseases of the retina include:

Diabetic Retinopathy

Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Macular Hole/Pucker

Retinal Detachment

Retinitis Pigmentosa

Retinal Vein Occlusion

It is important to attend frequent eye examinations with Fogg Remington EyeCare to make sure your retina is healthy. Some retinal diseases do not display any symptoms, which means the only way to diagnose them before they cause damage is through an eye examination. If you are due for an eye examination, call Fogg Remington EyeCare!
